Why Chinese moms want American Babies
SUMMARY: The article I read was called “Why Chinese moms want American babies”, written by Sophia Yan on February 8th. Chinese mothers are emigrating to the US to have babies for citizenship reasons. In 2012, about 10,000 chinese women gave birth in the US. Wealthy families in China are spending huge amounts of money to have their child in America so their child can get a better education and because the cost of living is way lower than Beijing. Birth tourism has exploded in America and the only catch is that the child will eventually have to pay US taxes.
Analysis: I disagree with this article because chinese families should not be able to come to America just to have babies and get citizenship. I think the government will eventually step in and address the issue. I feel that it shouldn't be that easy for people to come to the US and get citizenship.

I think that the Unites States government will have a hard time implementing rules restricting these mothers who want their child to be born in the US. The mothers enter the country often legally, so I'm not sure exactly what they would be charged with. What's also interesting about this article is it forces us to realize the true value of American citizenship. And makes me wonder why we and citizens of other countries value it so much.
ReplyDeleteI think that it is perfectly fine for people around the world, not just China, to want to have their kids born in the US so they have that citizenship. My aunt had my cousin in the US and then moved back to Syria and now it was easier for her to come back to America when the War in Syria started. My parents are from Syria, too, but they moved here to have kids because they wanted a better life for us and I feel so lucky for that. Parents just want to protect their kids and they believe that having them as US citizens is the best way to go because we probably have the most freedom.
