Why I am interested in this topic?
For the last 7 or 8 years my dad and I have been collecting baseball cards. Not only did we start to collect baseball cards because we wanted to spend some time together, but we also wanted to make an investment. When my dad was my age he also collected baseball cards. Before he went to college, he made a major mistake when he sold all of them to a collector for a couple hundred dollars. Now him and I have built up our collection and question if investing in baseball cards is rewarding in the future.
Possible questions:
What makes a card valuable?
What is the annual increase in price for baseball cards in general, as they get older?
Are there years that are more challenging to find in the twenty first century?
What is the biggest manufacturer of baseball cards?
Is it better to invest in baseball cards or other memorabilia?
What resources might I use to answer my questions?
Visiting local baseball card shops would be a successful way to gather information. Another resource to use is eBay or by looking in a Beckett book. In most Beckett books, they state the prices of each individual card from the last fifty years.
