My best friends have encountered trauma. They often have a harder time dealing with the trauma just because of the impact the people around them have on them. They often feel judged by some and feel unworthy in general. I want to know if that’s because of their specific trauma, or if that is just a normal response to trauma.
My main question is how does the social stigma impact the recovery process from a trauma?
The sub-questions involved are:
- Impact on talking about it and therefore seeking treatment and support?
- Availability of support?
- Treatment from family and friends around the trauma?
- Willingness to help, and helpfulness of help?
- Treatment from strangers on topic?
- How media impacts feelings about trauma internally?
Plan of attack:
- Personal interviews with trauma victims (all anonymous in report)
- Interview Trauma experts
- Teen Health and Wellness Database (search suicide rates per trauma, #of support groups, #of full recovery, #of reports)
- Search for support groups and visit them
