Summary: The main idea of this article is to talk about how
the Russian security company Kaspersky has detected and is trying to find out
who has been hacking into banks around the word stealing up to a billion
dollars so far. The hackers have been going at it since 2013. They have stolen
from over a 100 banks in 30 different countries. They have been taking no more
than ten million dollars from a bank to try and remain undetected. These
attacks are different from any other attacks that have taken place before
because the attackers are going straight after the banks and not the customers.
Analysis: The news I found most interesting about this
article is how these hackers actually stole the money. They would set up fake
accounts and transfer money in or hack ATM’s and has them release money and a
certain time and place. It amazes me how these people have not been caught yet
especially because they have stolen from banks in over 30 countries.
Discussion Questions:
What can be done in
the future to prevent cyber-attacks like this?
Do you think hackings and cyber-attacks will become more
prevalent as technology keeps getting better and better?

I think that recently is has become very popular that huge companies around the world have been hacked including this one. Just recently Sony was hacked and the reason behind it was that the hacker group really just wanted attention. In this case I think that it is totally opposite and for that reason the company needs to take stand right away before losing its customers.
ReplyDeleteI think as technology progresses, security does too. When hackers attack a bank or server, people learn how they committed the crime and what loop holes they got through. When cyber attacks happen and banks are hacked security is tightened so this can never happen again.
