UC Berkeley scientists have developed a system to capture visual activity in human brains and reconstruct it as digital video clips, bringing the idea of uploading your dreams onto YouTube within reach. This is made possible with the continued advancement in Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging, or fMRIs.
Although the current state of the technology is not that far along, and can only display video clips that the subject has already seen before, with less than stellar clarity, the significance of this invention is less about its immediate utility and more about the realization of what it could lead to. If perfected, this device could do more than simply allow us to see others' dreams - it could allow people such as paraplegics to walk again through the use of mind-controlled computers connected to a set of artificial legs.
Technological advancements such as this bring us ever closer to understanding the layout of the human brain as if it were an organic computer. We truly are living in a world of science fiction.
This is a really interesting concept. I know that sometimes describing a dream you've had to someone else can be tricky sometimes because you can't always remember it all the way or it's unbelievable. This technology would be great if it becomes more developed. Maybe provide more of your opinion about this topic next time since it's really interesting. Good job!
ReplyDeleteThe fact that technology has advanced so far is amazing. It could really provide insight in a person's mind, especially if we were able to make sense of the dreams. It would also be therapeutic, since if we were able to know what was bothering people subconsciously, we would then help them get through it. It would be better if you had specific examples and explanations with it. Also, it would be good if you had an analysis where you talked about your own personal thoughts about this article.
