Summary: The article
is about a once very dangerous and poor city, Bogota. Bogota is in Colombia and
according to the article has had one of the best comebacks as a city in Latin
America. Companies such as Google, Facebook and Microsoft have opened up
offices in Bogota in recent years. The city’s economy is expected to ripple its
size from a decade ago and also its middle class has grown by 50% in the last
decade. Colombia has become a friend of many nations because of its newly
surging economy and technological promise.
Analysis: I found this article to be very interesting. I
have never really heard much about Bogota in my lifetime and I had no clue how
good Colombia’s economy was doing. All I have heard about Colombia in my life
is how it is a very dangerous place where there are lots of drugs. I also found
it very interesting that such big companies such as Facebook, Google, and
Microsoft are now opening up offices in Colombia. That came as a bit of a shock
to me but it makes a lot of sense with how Colombia’s economy has been doing
recently
Discussion Questions:
Do you think more companies will start opening up companies
in Bogota like others have started doing so?
Does hearing positive things about Colombia and their
economy change people’s views of the nation away from drug use and poverty?
