Concussions can cause
symptoms of depression, nausea, insomnia, poor memory, dizziness, confusion,
sensitivity to light and noise, and temporary loss of consciousness. These
symptoms may not show up immediately, and can last for hours to months,
reported the Huffington Post.
These statements are very similar to all of the other statements in other articles about concussions that I have read. It is not contradictory at all and really supports the facts that have already been stated in articles that I have seen. This is an important passage in the article because it highlights exactly what the symptoms of concussions are after a person receives one. It also really helps with what I’m researching because it tells about all of the negative impacts concussions have. The article does not reveal any bias in this passage because these are all facts.
“The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that between 1.6 and 3.8 million sports-related concussive injuries occur annually in the USA,” according to Medscape.
This passage also serves a great deal of significance to the overall article. These numbers that it gives are enormous and something needs to be done about it. This quote really shows that when it comes to concussions we are still very far behind solving them. A lot needs to be done to start trying to prevent concussions from happening because these numbers are getting out of hand. The numbers they give even though there is a huge gap are reliable because they are given directly from the Center for Disease Control.
Preventing sports-related concussions is not as easy as just encouraging people to be more careful. There needs to be a change in the way players, their parents, coaches, other sports officials and fans behave in response to contacts and collisions that occur in a sport setting.
I found this passage to be really interesting in the
article. It tells us how it is on everyone to help try and reduce the amount of
concussions that happen. It shows how it needs to be educated to not only the
players but also the coaches and parents. It also shows that coaches need to
teach proper ways to have collisions and by doing so it will have a huge impact
on the number of head injuries. I think this passage is also important because
it gives an opinion saying it is not easy but it is necessary that there needs
to be a change.

I liked your blog post and I liked how you analyzed and explained why you enjoyed it. If you just added the link into a citation instead of under the picture it would've been even better.
ReplyDeleteBeing an athlete, this topic really hits home, and I think every other athlete in the room can agree that concussions are serious but no one acts on them. Your article definitely showed that everyone needs to be aware of concussions and individuals that receive them can't act all tough and think they're fine because that only ends in worse injury. Maybe try adding more statistics to appeal to people's emotions; hopefully then people will realize that concussions are as bad as they seem.
ReplyDeleteReally nice job analyzing each quote and also just picking the right quotes in general, but maybe try and put the quotations more into the paragraphs themselves rather then taking a quote and then starting a new paragraph about analyzing it.
