In the article “Boko Haram purportedly pledges allegiance to ISIS”, It talked about how on Saturday, it was announced that Boko Haram is allies with ISIS now. It mentions in the article that there have been fake messages before, but this one is believed to be real. There was a message that was linked between the two and promoted by both. The reason for them joining together is so that ISIS can get more support in Africa and so that Boko Haram can help its media and cyber warfare. The C.I.A. however doesn't think the relationship will last for long. ISIS leaders find that Boko Haram’s form of Islam is sub par and they are also racist toward blacks. Boko Harams Islam is more African based unlike ISIS’s.
In my opinion, Someone needs to take action. The two biggest terrorist organizations are allies now and that could prove very bad if nothing is done. I do agree with the C.I.A. that it will eventually end due to differences, but not for a very long time.
- Do you think that the allegiance will last for a long time, or be short?
- Will this inspire more people to join ISIS?
I think that they share one common goal, to terrorize the world. The difference in faith will only break their alliance once they have accomplished their goals. Your point about, a necessity for action I believe is extremely valid, there is a small amount of action being taken at least from our point of view. I'm pretty sure we are helping with air strikes along with other countries on the ground.
ReplyDeleteAs we learned in class, Boko Haram claims to be Christian, and ISIS claims to be Muslim. We know already that ISIS has been killing Christian people, and the fact that Boko Haram is claiming to be a Christian terrorist group could lead, in a worst possible scenario, to a terrorist war between ISIS and Boko Haram. It could either be that, or a gradual separation of the two groups, and maybe a minor conflict. However, Boko Haram may be lying about being a Christian group, and actually be Muslims, as how ISIS is. In all reality, I wouldn't specifically know, it depends on what events will happen to determine whether they will remain allies, separate, or some other unforeseen event.
ReplyDeleteI actually don't think they will last long together. They are so radical and so extreme they can't get along with anyone that doesn't believe exactly the same thing that they do. They can't work well with others. I'm not saying it isn't threatening, but if anything this could just cause a war between them. Maybe take the focus on the rest of us.
ReplyDeleteI think this alliance will last for a short amount of time because the two terrorist groups religions and philosophy clash too drastically. Eventually both organizations will try to assume dominance over one another and this will end in bloodshed.
