In the article, Tensions set to rise on Korean Peninsula as annual war games near, published on March 1st, 2015, we learned that both the US and South Korean militaries join together for military exercises, even though North Korea feels threatened. North Korea obviously does not like these annual events and has threatened both militaries with attacks ever since they have begun. Both the US and South Korean militaries agree that these exercises are meant for practice, never provocative nature, yet the North Korean government thinks this is when both of those militaries plan to attack them. These so called threats that North Koreans feel helps rally the people in the super isolated nation. The exercises will continue, even though North Korea will keep firing missiles to warn off invaders. The US and South Korean militaries have both held off some drills in the past due to potential nuclear weapons involved.
North Korea has always been a silent threat to the US and our military. If these exercises are strictly meant as practice, maybe they should move locations as to not start any conflicts with North Korea. I find it shocking that North Korea hasn’t threatened us back due to their nature. The US military knows what they are doing and if there is a serious threat to our safety, it will all be resolved.
- Why does the US and South Korean military not just move locations? Especially if North Korea has a past with being a violent nation?
- Do you think that North Korea will want to start a conflict with the other two nations? And if so, what do they really have to lose?
North Korea is definitely paranoid and will claim that America and South Korea are threatening them even if no threat exists, but thankfully they don't seem to be in any position to retaliate. The US has one of the world's largest and most well equipped armed forces, and South Korea is at the very least better equipped than North Korea is. Despite all the threats, I don't think north Korea would enter a fight they knew they couldn't win.
ReplyDeleteI think they do not want to move locations because they have a right to stay in their location, even though it is bothering North Korea. North Korea is a major threat, and I believe that they want to stay in their location to in some way show North Korea that they are present and are a forced to be reckoned with. We don't want to back down, because if we do that will show U.S. and South Korea's vulnerability.
